Who is Ashin Wirathu?
Venerable Wirathu is a monk well known for his sermons on protecting Buddhist culture. He treats all people with fairness and has started campaigns to support Buddhists in his country and around the globe.
He is the second son of eight children, Wirathu was born in 1968 in a town near Mandalay and only attended school until 14, after which he became a monk in 1984. In 2001 he started the 969 campaign.
He presides at Masoeyein monastery in Mandalay.
